What is HypnoBirthing?HypnoBirthing is the original education program using hypnosis for childbirth, developed by Marie Mongan in the 1990's (almost 30 years ago)! It's an evidence-based childbirth education program that teaches you what happens in your body during labor and birth, and how deep relaxation techniques can transform the experience. You will not be in a trance or out of control – quite the opposite. You will be equipped with the knowledge to make informed decisions throughout your birth, and to trust your baby and your body. What if I can’t be hypnotized?Almost anyone who wants to be hypnotized can achieve the relaxed state of hypnosis. You’ll be totally in control, can hear everything that is said and can respond verbally and physically. The body relaxes as if asleep, but the mind remains even more alert.
-
Will you be able to make me do something humiliating? No! Stage hypnosis has left us with this myth. There will be no animal sounds or gestures involved. You are in total control of your own mind and behavior.

Should my birth partner also attend?Yes, if possible birth partners should definitely attend. It is important that your main support person knows how to support and advocate for you. Lots of partners may have feelings of helplessness--not knowing how to help or how to support a laboring person on their birthing day. This course will calm those fears and provide tangible tools for support and comfort. That being said, I've had several clients take the course without a birth companion! Alternatively, you could ask a friend or support person to come to just a few of the classes-- class 1 and 4 are specifically geared toward birth partners.

Do you offer private sessions?YES! Private sessions are available upon request! You'll find it as an option in the shop. Submit an 'Submission of Inquiry' to get the ball rolling. I'll reach out to you to schedule a convenient day/time. You can request a private session taught virtually through Zoom, or an in-person session in your home, where I bring the course to you!

When in my pregnancy should I start HypnoBirthing classes? Most parents like to start their HypnoBirthing preparations between 20 – 34 weeks. From my experience, being in class around the 28 week mark is perfect for allowing enough time to practice the techniques, integrate the philosophy, and discuss and prepare your birth plan with your provider. The earlier the better!

I’m 35 weeks pregnant. Is it too late for me?Not at all. It's never too late to have a positive birth experience! If you are very near to your birthing time, I can make special arrangements for individual classes with you.

How do I know that my HypnoBirthing Practitioner is certified and holds the proper qualifications?Look for the Gold Seal! The gold HypnoBirthing emblem is a sign of both credibility and professionalism for Educators internationally. This emblem is only given to those Educators who have pushed themselves to successfully complete the extensive HypnoBirthing certification classes and training. You'll also notice that capital 'B' in HypnoBirthing. That's another clue that you're taking the original course! Emily has received her Gold Seal Certification and is officially recognized with the HypnoBirthing Institute.

Is the course only for first time birthers? No way! The HypnoBirthing program is for everyone. Whether it’s your first baby or your fifth, this unique program will equip you with the tools for the empowering birth experience you deserve. In fact, HB techniques have been proven to help those who’ve had previous traumatic birth experiences overcome these to change their birth this time around.
-
Does taking the HypnoBirthing course guarantee a pain-free birth?HypnoBirthing does not profess to offer preparation for births that are totally free of pain, discomfort or unanticipated incidents. We do offer our clients an opportunity to explore the possibility of stepping into their birth without fear or stress and prepare them for whatever turn their birthing may take. Birth is meant to be felt, not feared. During the 5-week course, I will teach you some amazing techniques that will stimulate the production of your body’s natural pain-relieving hormones. And remember, as with anything, the more practice you put in, the more effective these techniques will be on your baby’s birth day. That said, around 76% of HypnoBirthing clients who birthed vaginally did so without epidural anesthesia!
